"Red Static" = HPPD! must read
if you keep up with this forum you may have read me reporting that after using peyote this "red static" i see has remained with me ever since. i was doing some research on wikipedia and turned up the exact article i was looking for explaining it (much to my relief and partial dismay)
this is cited from the article
Another frequent cause of visual snow is hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD) following use of LSD, MDMA (ecstasy), psychedelic mushrooms or other hallucinogens. In HPPD, the symptom of visual snow has been described by Abraham (1983) as aeropsia (literally "seeing the air"). It is noteworthy that HPPD can occur after a single dose of a hallucinogen and with a considerable latency between last drug intake and onset of persistent perception disorder, so taking a thorough life-time drug history is mandatory in the diagnostic-work up of visual snow. There exists anecdotal evidence from single case observations that a variety of other illegal or prescribed drugs including cannabis, antibiotics, anti-depressants and neuroleptics may cause visual snow or other symptoms of persisting perceptual disorder, but for the time being this has not been established for any of these aforementioned classes of drugs

I've had something similar to that for a couple of years now.. only I am not sure if it's the same thing so I'll describe it and whoever has it please tell me if it's the same? o.O
I see little dots of light only they're not red, they're white. It's not like TV static, more like when you hit a cushion and dust comes up only they're tiny dots of light and they 'appear' to go as far as the eye can see and even when my eyes aren't moving, the static still is.
Anything like yours? I've never been able to find an explanation but that HPPD sounds pretty close.. visual snow
*Edit: OMG I love you, I love you!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Visualsnow-80.jpg That's exactly what I seeee

from all i've read theres no cure. sometimes it can last years or go away after just a few months off the drugs... sometimes its permanent. although the drug klonopin can be use as an aid to help treat/minize the effects of it. also... when i enter a pitch black space after a few moments i begin to get this.. psychadelic light show. which is funny because i never experienced that ON the doses... haha.
also aside from just visual snow and other such visual disturbances (there are several kinds) another symptom of Hppd is "flashbacks" where you snap into a state of feeling your on a trip... your perception of reality is the same as when your on the hallucinogen.
