Should I close my eyes or keep them open and stare??

I dont know if i should keep them open or closed when doingthis. any suggestions?

open your eyes if you know how to drift off,
close if you don't.

whenever I open them I seem to lose the effects of the dose. But some people say that's how they trip, in the middle of the dose when they open their eyes.
