Astral Projection

I'm afraid to try it....some questions.
1) Can I be asleep while being on the astral plane?
2) Can you die on the astral plane?
3) What happens when your "chord" to your physical plane body snaps?
4) Any tips?
I'm REALLY scared to go try it. I mean, I don't want to die on the astral plane. I just want the experience, be able to use it weekly or even daily. Just to play around, explore. It's just, well, I don't want to be detached and never be able to come back. THAT'S what I'm afraid of. Can anyone help? Thanks.
