You shouldn't have to worry about tripping out to hard... The biggest trip people normally have is something like seeing everything in a different shade of color, everything wavy, etc. Nothing like your not still in reality. I would go for a dose which interests you the most. Something that you mihg...

Just focus on the beats and just let your mind drift off into it. If you count down from a number (200 or more), you will eventually drift into the dose and get some effects. If you don't, keep trying

Just keep trying... Your brain may not be so susceptible to binaural beats as you hope. I didn't get any effects until my 15th dose and I didn't get strong effects every single time until my 70th or so dose (just an estimation)

You can have effects with lights on, it's just harder because your mind thinks about things you're looking at in the room instead of the dose. Not to mention, you closed your eyes.
