Headphones don't work

Hi, I purchased a set of Plantronics DSP-500 headphones a few months ago. These headphones are very good quality like the sennheiser, except they use a USB port to connect. The Sennheiser headphones are very expensive and I see no need in buying another pair of high quality headphones when I already have some. Whenever I try to play an I-Doser Dose, no sound comes out like it's being muted... When I try and then play a song from another program such as itunes, the sound does not work there either. I have to disconnect the headphones and connect them into the USB port everytime I try using I-doser to get the sound to come back. Can someone please give me some help on how to solve this???

could have something to do with windows picking the correct device for output. because:
usb headphones (like any usb audio device) work quite differently from normal headphone-jack headphones, cuz they're not receiving a pure analog audio signal. basically there's a sound card of sorts inside usb headphones, and windows sees that like another sound card to output to. and then the output of that mini-sound card is piped to the speakers in the headphones.
